George van Rooyen

George has over 15 years of experience in communications, journalism, and marketing. Before moving to Canada, he spent a decade working as a journalist in his native South Africa. He held several positions at a lifestyle automotive magazine called Leisure Wheels, including that of photojournalist, digital editor, and deputy editor. During his tenure at the magazine, he crisscrossed the African continent and reported on automotive news around the globe.

George also edited and acted as the chief photographer of an international version of Entrepreneur magazine, which gave him the opportunity to meet and interview hundreds of prominent business leaders.

As a marketer, he spent time at a content agency where his clients included prominent high-tech brands such as Dell, Slack, and Okta. He authored many white papers, reports, and blog posts for these companies, as well as thought leadership pieces for their C-suite executives.

Prior to joining Coast Communications, George worked as the content marketing manager for a Vancouver-based software company that specializes in data archiving for highly-regulated and highly-litigated industries. The articles, reports, guides, and white papers he authored centred on the legal and compliance implications of modern communications platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Slack, Microsoft Teams, etc.) in both the private and public sectors.

George holds degrees in Communications (majoring in Journalism, Philosophy, and Politics) and Philosophy from the University of Johannesburg, and has a Masters in Business Administration from Boston University’s Questrom School of Business.

He lives with his wife in Coquitlam, B.C. He loves the outdoors and is an avid photographer and hiker.
