COVID-19 — What You Need to Know: April 28

Status Update as of April 28: 4:00 PM PST:
  • 55 new positive cases since April 27
  • 2,053 total positive cases in B.C.
  • 94 people are currently in hospital, 37 are in ICU
  • 2 new deaths for a total of 105 deaths total
  • 1,190 have fully recovered

Recent Government Announcements:

Federal

  • Employers who applied for the 75% wage subsidy announced earlier in the COVID-19 outbreak are expected to receive the subsidies May 7th 
    • According to Prime Minister Trudeau, 10,000 businesses and organizations have already applied
  • Canada's Federal modelling, released today, April 28, shows that Canada is flattening the curve, but shouldn't ease up just yet
    • While cases are now doubling every 16 days, compared to the previous rate of every 3 days, the death toll continues to rise due to impacted long-term care facilities

Public Health Canada offers their entire modelling report from today, April 28, here. The above graph depicts the various circumstances Canadians could see themselves in during future months, depending on the measures taken. If we continue to partake in the strict physical distancing measures we are now, Canadians could see a plateau come Summer 2020.
