COVID-19 — What You Need to Know: April 7

Impacts on Business: Status Update as of April 7, 5:00 PM PST:
  • 25 new positive cases in B.C., down from the 63 new cases in the 48 hours prior  
  • 1291 total positive cases in B.C.
  • 138 people are currently in hospital, 66 are in ICU, this is down from the 149 in hospital and 68 in ICU that were announced on Saturday
  • 4 additional deaths  
  • 805 have fully recovered

 

Recent Government Announcements:

Federal

  • CERB applications began yesterday for those with birthdays in January through March. Each day applications will open for those with birthdays in the following 3 months 
  • Dr. Theresa Tam officially supports wearing cloth masks to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 
  • Prime Minister Trudeau laid out new eligibility requirements for the CERB. The Prime Minister stated that Canadians who still have jobs but are working 10 hours or less due to the pandemic, such as gig economy or contract workers, as well as those who are working but earning less money than they would if they received the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB), such as long-term care workers, will soon be able to qualify for federal assistance
